Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, namely nose plastic surgery, is one of the most applied. When looking at the face, the first striking structure is the nose because it is located in the middle of the face. The proportion of the nose with the surrounding structures (forehead, eyebrow, upper lip, etc.) gives it aesthetic appearance. In addition, the nose finds its beauty thanks to the proportions based on millimetric levels between the cartilage and bone structures within itself.

The development of facial bones reaches 18 years of age, so nose aesthetic surgery can be performed after 18 years of age. The demands of the patient from the doctor are very important in order to achieve a good aesthetic result after rhinoplasty. Digital manipulations made on the photographs can give an idea about the shape of the nose to be obtained. These changes are mostly guiding in terms of nose-lip and nose-forehead transitions. However, there is no guarantee that 100% same shape will occur after surgery. Breathing problems must be examined in pre-operative examinations and tests. During rhinoplasty, breathing problems in the nose due to mechanical reasons can be solved.

Rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia and the operation takes approximately 1.5-2 hours. Depending on the patient's condition and wishes, open rhinoplasty (by making an incision at the tip of the nose) or closed rhinoplasty (by incision through the nostrils) can be applied. After closed rhinoplasty, swelling and bruising are less, recovery time is faster and more natural nose shape can be given. However, the closed technique has advantages in extremely curved noses or septum region curvatures. In accordance with the pre-operative planning, the nose can be reduced and enlarged in accordance with the facial contours of the patient, the belt on it can be removed, the angles between the nose-lip and nose-forehead can be adjusted, interventions for curvature and breathing problems can be applied, the nose tip can be shaped. In aesthetic nose surgery, it is aimed to eliminate the curvature of the nose, to provide the ratio between the nasal bone and cartilage tissues and the ratio between the nose and surrounding tissues. Septum curvatures and concha growths that cause breathing problems are corrected during surgery. After the nose is finalized, silicone pads are placed in the nose to support the septum and support the nasal bone-cartilage structures from within. Thanks to the holes in the middle of the silicone nasal pads, it allows the patient to breathe from the nose after the surgery. From the outside, it is supported by a splint placed on nasal patches.

6-8 hours after rhinoplasty, the patient starts to be fed with liquid and soft foods when the effects of anesthetic drugs pass. Intermittent cold application for the first 24 hours is important because of the effect of reducing bleeding by contracting the cold blood vessels. Cold application helps to reduce swelling and bruises that may occur around the eyes. The tampon and splint are removed 7 days after the operation. Removing a tampon and splint is a painless procedure. In order to reduce edema by pressing on the nose, a plaster is applied and renewed in 3-4 day controls. Approximately 10-15 days after the operation, the nose becomes uncoated.

The swelling (edema) on the nose rapidly regresses within the first 1-2 months and 1. At the end of the month, the new nose shape begins to appear. However, in terms of the location of the tip of the nose and the characteristics of the skin, it takes about 5-6 months for the edema to disappear completely and the nose to reach its final shape after surgery. During this period, hitting the nose area should be avoided. Glasses are not recommended for the first 2 months.
