Breast enlargement in men is called gynecomastia. It can be seen in about 60% of the adolescence period, regardless of a specific disease. Although gynecomastia may occur as a result of disease or external hormone therapy in hormone producing organs, the cause of most of them is not a specific disease.

When evaluating the gynecomastia patient, firstly, examination and hormonal tests are performed. Patients over the age of 18 who do not have a certain underlying disease are suitable for operation.

Gynecomastia operations are performed under general anesthesia and last about 1-1.5 hours. Low-grade gynecomastia can be operated under local anesthesia. The type of operation to be performed varies according to the degree of gynecomastia. Basically, 2 types of operations or a combination of these operations are applied, which are surgical removal of the tissue and fat absorption (Liposuction). Liposuction, laser liposuction or VASER is sufficient for patients without excess skin. In liposuction applications, the operation is performed by entering through 2 holes opened from the side of the breast. In patients with excess skin and / or dense tissue consistency, the breast tissue is reached through the incision made around the nipple and the unwanted tissue is surgically removed. After the gynecomastia operation, silicone pipes called drains are placed in order to prevent blood accumulation in the surgical area. Silicone pipes (Drains) are placed in the surgical area to prevent blood and fluid accumulation in the early postoperative period. It is appropriate for the patient to spend at least 1 day in the hospital after the operation. After about 6-8 hours, after the effect of anesthetic drugs wears off, the patient can stand up. Patients operated under local anesthesia can be discharged on the same day.

Exercises that over-work the chest muscle should be avoided for 2 months after the operation. The patient can return to his daily work within 3-5 days. A special corset that will put pressure on the chest area should be used for the first 2 months. These corsets provide comfort during movement and contribute to the shaping of the chest area.
